MK Stalin Announces ₹5,000 Disbursal to 1.31 Crore Women Under Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme Ahead of Tamil Nadu Polls
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Friday announced the disbursal of ₹5,000 to women beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme, describing the move as part of his government’s continued focus on welfare support.
According to the Chief Minister, the payment covers allocations for February, March and April. Of the total amount, ₹3,000 accounts for the regular monthly assistance, while ₹2,000 has been provided as a one-time “summer special” bonus. He stated that the funds have been credited to approximately 1.31 crore women.
Statement on Welfare Commitment
In a post on X, Stalin said the scheme represents a “rights-based allocation” for women and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuing the programme.
He also alleged that there were attempts to delay the disbursement citing election-related constraints but maintained that the state government would proceed as promised.
Dravidian Model 2.0 Proposal
The Chief Minister further indicated that under a proposed “Dravidian Model 2.0,” the monthly financial assistance could be increased from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000, if his party returns to power.
The Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme has been a flagship welfare initiative of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, aimed at providing direct financial support to eligible women heads of households.
Political Context
The announcement comes months ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with welfare programmes expected to remain a central theme in the campaign narrative.
